Balancing Buildings and Landscapes: Revitalizing Lincoln Woods Beach Complex - Cancelled due to Wind

On the shore of Olney Pond in Lincoln Woods State Park, three new buildings anchor a revitalized landscape that welcomes visitors to one of the most popular parks in the RI state system. Their diagonal orientation animates the composition and avoids creating a wall that would close off the landscape. Their materials – granite, timbers, and metals – recall the classic lodges of the Adirondacks. The energy efficiency of the buildings melds gracefully into the natural beauty of the rustic design and building materials. The landscape, interwoven around the buildings, capitalizes on existing views and accessibility to the pond. Selected vegetation addresses sustainability and ecological appropriateness to this location, in addition to being low maintenance. Although not a LEED project, the landscape architectural design did follow LEED and SITES criteria for sustainable design. Come learn about this exciting revitalization with Architect Mary Brewster, AIA, of Brewster Thornton Group Architects, LLP, and Landscape Architect Elena Pascarella of Landscape Elements, LLC. Their informal chat will provide a behind-the-scenes look at reimagining these new areas, and they also will take the group on a short guided tour.

Guests are encouraged to bring a lunch and picnic at the park after the tour!

Directions to the meeting place for the tour: Here’re the exact coordinates on Google Maps. Once in the park, follow the signs to the Lincoln Woods beach!
