Suydam + Diepenbrock: Two Designers, Two Studios, A Way of Life

Join Peter Diepenbrock and Didi Suydam at their studios in Jamestown and learn how they have approached their respective practices in sculpture, contemporary jewelry and design.

Since graduating from RISD in ‘84 + ‘85 Peter and Didi have supported themselves exclusively as self-employed artist/designers creating an array of one-of-a-kind, limited edition, and production collections.

Their professional careers have encompassed numerous practices Including site specific public art, product design, custom metal fabrication, silversmithing, craft based manufacturing for wholesale and retail markets, furnishings, and photographic imagery.

In addition to her studio practice, Didi guided and managed their gallery, Didi Suydam Contemporary (formally Suydam + Diepenbrock) in Newport for over 12 years.

Both fundamentally sharing an affinity for metal, Didi and Peter have run their studio practices side-by-side for over 30 years.

Didi Suydam

Didi Suydam is nationally recognized for her masterful sculptural jewelry and recent explorations into digital imagery. She is the recipient of several grants including The National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Crafts. Her work has been featured in numerous publications including Metalsmith, Metropolis, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Fashion of the Times.Her work is also in private and museum collections including the Craft Collection of The Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C. In addition to her studio work, Didi was the guiding partner of Didi Suydam Contemporary, a gallery in Newport for over 12 years.

Peter Diepenbrock, a Jamestown sculptor and designer creates site-specific sculptural projects for residential, public and liturgical spaces. Recent completions include: Clock Man, for The Foundry Complex (coming soon!) Transversion for the Lakewood Public Library in Lakewood Ohio, Torsion III for the University of Rhode Island, The Rhode Island 9/11 Memorial, for The Rhode Island State House, and The Ark and Yahrzeit Memorial for Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley Ma. In addition to the public works, Peter has completed several dozen private commissions throughout New England.
