May Clambake partnered with 10KSB

Clambake 10ksb 500x300

Clambake is a gathering for designers, creatives, and those who like design and want to know more. It’s a time to get together, network, and hear about some of the cool new design work that is happening in RI. Two presenters from two different design disciplines present each month. Presentations are generally 15 minutes followed by Q&A.

In 2018, we are traveling around RI to find a new home for Clambake. Find us throughout the state this year!In 2018, we are traveling around RI to find a new home for Clambake. Find us throughout the state this year.

Aja Blanc

Ben & Aja Blanc

Aja Blanc is a designer and studio owner, who along with her design partner and husband Ben Blanc, produce sculptural lighting, furniture and objects for the world’s most sought after interior designers and discerning consumers of contemporary design. Their objects are reflective of a rich personal creative practice - infusing their work with a stark, modern style paired with handcrafted technique. Aja brings her unique background in the fine arts and career in the museum profession, including the Yale University Art Gallery and RISD Museum, to the design process.

Coming from the world of museums and into the realm of design, Aja brought along her love of art history to the creative process, allowing her designs to emerge from an understanding of historical frameworks and contemporary contexts. She brings a love of hand sculpting into her studio work as well as maintaining a writing practice about design that informs her objects. Aja designs collaboratively with her partner Ben and their staff and believes in the value of the “many voiced” object. Together, their work and design process reflects a mutual pursuit of beauty through creation of form and refinement of material, along with a perpetual attraction to collection and curation. Their work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Vogue, Elle Décor and The New York Times.

Cleverhood

A city cyclist and walker. After searching for years for the perfect jacket, I created a high performance, unisex rain cape/poncho. Cleverhood was founded in 2011 and we have been selling our raincapes world wide since. Vice magazine said “I came across these Cleverhoods and freaked out over how cool they look.” Our gear landed on the top of the Forbes gift list for cyclists and the cover of Japan’s fashion mag POPEYE. We won the ISPO award (leading international sports business network, Munich, GER) and the Outdoor Industry Association’s Made in America Award. We are also the only US product invited to VeloCity (Intl. Bike Congress) and invited to DesignBoom’s North American Market in Toronto. We’ve gotten great reviews in the UK Guardian, Der Spiegel, Vogue, the China Morning Star… we are a small RI company with a world wide reach.

All of our garments are designed in Providence and proudly manufactured in Fall River, MA and Oakland, CA.

A Graphic Designer at New York Review of Books then moved to RI to start a painting business and a family. I taught art at Sophia Academy for 9 years.
