Elmwood Studios Open House

Elmwood studios - 2 Elmwood studios - 3 (1)

Elmwood Studios is a shared space made up of four design businesses based here in Rhode Island: Nest Homeware, Oblique Studio, Studio Endo and Work-Shop.

We’re a group of designers and makers that make everything we design. Our complementary skill sets and diverse experience allow us fruitful opportunities for collaboration, and our friendship makes the work all the more fun.

Come visit us for our annual open house and see what we are up to, inspire us with your stories and have a drink with us.

These events are being recorded and photographed. By attending, you give your consent to be photographed, filmed, taped, and/or recorded.

Matt Cavallaro

Nest Homeware

Matt was raised in a small town outside Rochester, NY. He grew up loving dinosaurs, horses, and space. None of that has changed.

He graduated from the Industrial Design program at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2010. It was there that he fell in love with the cast iron process and deepened his appreciation for ancient materials, story, and myth.

Matt has since anchored in Providence and gone on to teach courses at RISD on cast iron, investment casting for bronze, and machining for metal. He has also done work for NASA, the U.S. Military, the film industry, and various companies in their start-up phases. He is constantly learning and always experimenting.

Miles Endo

Studio Endo

Miles Endo founded his studio on the principles of hands-on making and craftsmanship. Born in Tokyo, Japan and raised in Honolulu, HI, the son of two musicians, Miles has a deeply ingrained sense of the culture of making. After completing a degree in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design, Miles spent years honing his skills designing bespoke furniture and custom cabinetry for private and commercial clients with precision and patience at the heart of every project.

In 2015 Miles launched his debut lighting collection at the Architectural Digest Show in New York, receiving critical acclaim. Since that time the collection has refined and grown to provide a comprehensive set of lighting fixtures catering to the residential and commercial market. Despite having increased in scale, the workshop remains at the center of the studio. The spirit of craftsmanship and quality exists in every product with Miles overseeing every detail from concept to installation.

Michael Larsen

Oblique Studio

Michael Larsen has fifteen years of experience in construction and is a licensed and insured contractor in the state of Rhode Island. He received a Master of Architecture from RISD and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Utah. Mike brings a dedicated craft of building and fabrication to the studio, allowing him to conceive of the process of making while sketching out ideas. Mike has taught Manual Representation in the Architecture Department at RISD and is a Visiting Critic at RISD as well as Roger Williams University.
