Clambake is a gathering for designers, creatives, and those who like design and want to know more. It’s a time to get together, network, and hear about some of the cool new design work that is happening in RI. Two presenters from two different design disciplines present each month. Presentations are generally 15 minutes followed by Q&A.
In 2018, we are traveling around RI to find a new home for Clambake. Find us throughout the state this year! With DESIGN WEEK RI in September, we’re combining October & November Clambake into one!
In November, we’re at Studio Rainwater in E. Providence.

Whetstone Workshop & The Illuminated Oven
Maria Martinez is the co-founder and director of operations, at Whetstone Workshop and The Illuminated Oven. Whetstone is a creative design and fabrication firm specializing in architectural metalwork and sculptural installations. The Illuminated Oven is a wholesale bakery, supplying local cafes with pastries made from farm fresh ingredients.
Maria earned a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry in 2005, and started her career at a Cambridge biotech start-up before moving to Rhode Island. Here she joined Save The Bay, restoring sea grass and shellfish populations in Narragansett Bay.
Maria enjoys the practicality of solving production challenges and also the creativity of developing business strategies. She has spent the last few years marketing Whetstone as collaborative partner to designers and architects, landing larger, more complex projects. Whetstone installed their first international project this year, and will also be completing their first local installation in Providence, RI.
