13 Providence Design Business Receive the CATALYST Award

DESIGNxRI is pleased to announce the 2018 recipients of the PROVIDENCE DESIGN CATALYST award - a competitive program designed to boost small design business growth by providing grant capital, mentorship, and business training, during a five-month milestone-based cohort experience.

The 2018 PROVIDENCE DESIGN CATALYST Awardees are:

  • Providence Painted Signs
  • RA HA Jewelry
  • Reconstructure
  • Sawtooth Editions
  • Sealand Design LLC
  • Tzu-Ju Chen Jewelry
  • Upriver Downriver
  • Wild Power Games
  • Work-Shop Design Studio

Awardees range in types of design businesses and include ventures in video game design, AR/VR product design, bilingual educational design, apparel, jewelry and homestyle product design, sign and graphic design, interior design, and design/build. They will receive funds between $5,000 - $8,500 each, a business mentor, and business training over the course of the program, running January - May.

Recipients were selected after a competitive application process reviewed 32 applications in total for the 2018 awards. The process revealed the strength of the design sector - where Providence alone presented many viable design driven businesses.

The 2018 Providence Design Catalyst cohort represent an exciting group of design businesses in our city positioned to strengthen, sustain, or grow their ventures.

The Providence Design Catalyst program is led by DESIGNxRI and funded by the City of Providence’s Department of Community Development and Real Jobs RI, a program of the RI Department of Labor and Training. Program partners and advisors include RI School of Design and Aidan Petrie, co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer emeritus at Ximedica.
