Finding Your Way: Reconceiving Wayfinding at the RISD Museum

Hosted by the RISD Museum

Wednesday, September 16

12:00-1:00 PM

RISD Museum | 20 North Main St, Providence, RI 02903

Five buildings, constructed over a century and a half, into a hill, and a wayfinding system in bad need of a refresh. As part of DESIGNxRI’s DESIGN WEEK RI, hear from members of the RISD Museum design team who have dramatically reconceived the museum’s wayfinding system, from signage to screens to even redesigning the map. They will walk through their process from discovery to concepting to what they learned by gathering feedback from a wide range of users, to building and implementing the system institution-wide. This session will dive into the complexities of creating design systems within multifaceted institutions, why user testers are necessary, and what visitors really need. You may never look at signage the same.
