MEET OUR SPEAKERS
Andrew Middleton
The Map Center
I’ve been making maps for over a decade. I studied environmental science at the University of New Hampshire and took a Geographic Information Systems course that turned into a summer job, then an Americorps position in the Coal Country of West Virginia, then to California where I settled in making maps of neighborhoods in Brazil for Apple Maps, maps of ground water contamination for environmental consulting firms and maps of power lines across Northern California for one of the largest utility companies in the world.
When Andy Nosal, the third owner of The Map Center, offered me the opportunity to be the fourth, I loved the idea of shepherding this local institution through its next chapter serving a community that loves being the home of New England’s oldest map store.
Andy still comes by every week or so to have lunch and catch up.
Lisa Limer
Bela Monde
Lisa Limer’s professional career spans over 30 years. She began as a professional photographer, with her work frequently featured in renowned publications such as Conde Nast Traveler, Marie Claire, and House and Garden. Her photographs are also included in several prestigious private and museum collections, including the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and The New York Public Library in NYC.
In 2016, Lisa received a Providence Design Catalyst grant, which enabled her transition from photography to textile design. For the past eight years, she has devoted herself to building Bela Monde, an outerwear and accessories brand. The brand is known for its silk prints and wearables inspired by Lisa’s extensive travel experiences and wanderlust.
Lisa resides in Providence and is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2023, she and her design partner, Johnnie Chace, opened a showroom and studio at 137 Chestnut Street in Providence’s Jewelry District.
CREATIVE CONVERSATIONS is a speaker series designed to bring together designers, creatives, and design enthusiasts to exchange ideas and get inspired. The series provides a platform for industry experts and up and coming creatives in their field to share their insights, experiences, and best practices with the broader creative community. This bi-monthly gathering is for designers, creatives, innovators and enthusiasts in Rhode Island.
Formerly known as “Clambake”, DESIGNxRI has been facilitating conversations with Rhode Island creatives since 2018.
