Zhush It Up! Blending Vintage into Your Designs & Staging

Do you want to create a contemporary space that doesn’t feel “out of the box” or like someone else’s Pinterest board? Are you interested in vintage pieces but are over the prices and conflicting attributions on third party resale sites? Do you need “that” piece for your space but just can’t seem to find it in your scrolling? Then join us for an interactive talk on sourcing and using vintage to zhush up a space!
This session will take place in the historically registered George Jepherson House (1890) where we will use a sampling of vintage & contemporary furniture, lighting, rugs, and art to demonstrate how you can style the old with the new to stay on-brief and in-budget. In this ode to aesthetic functional design we will jump into how growing efforts to research and restore pieces from the 1930s through Y2K mean our access to non-antiques are readily available for your projects. If you’re an interior designer or home stager, you won’t want to miss the ROI on using vintage as a market separator for your business – or to simply refresh a space for your everyday use.
Free! RSVP NEEDED!

Britt Machado
Ever since she painted her childhood bathroom bright orange, Britt has been enthusiastic about interior design. Throughout her years in Los Angeles producing films and working on the business side of media, she quietly honed her style and knowledge by traveling and self-studying design and architecture. After relocating to the Eastcoast with her partner John, she started collecting and selling vintage which has since expanded into JohnnyCakes Design & Vintage. She loves working with clients to elucidate their aesthetic and translate that into a personal and functional space. Britt is also a certified Master Gardener and loves to incorporate plantlife into her designs.

John Powers
After a long career lobbying for and working with military veterans to access their higher education benefits, John has found his passion in art and vintage. Born and raised in Rhode Island, he spent a decade in Los Angeles where he met Britt. After relocating back to the Eastcoast, John has used his knack for research to source vintage and antiques, with a special love for fine art. A born treasure hunter, he loves to work with clients to find that specific thing they’re looking for- whether it’s in Copenhagen or Little Rock. When he’s not making sure operations are running smoothly, John loves to sit on the beach and hangout with his daughter.
