Collab’Nation – An ode to Education, PTSD, and the Arts with Authentic Abstraction

Two former Pawtucket, RI firefighters Edmund Dalo & Brendan McCarthy will speak about their journey through Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and how their bond and collaboration over creating paintings and poetry helped to save their lives. During this event, the artists will speak about their experiences, display their work, hold an open Q&A, and screen their 18 minute documentary “Flame is Jazz” which tells the story of their journey and battle with PTSD and their use of art.

Edmund Dalo

Edmund is a Rhode Island native, and one half of Authentic Abstraction LLC. Edmund lives with his partner Amy and dog Checkers, and enjoys a short pour of bourbon, the sounds of silence, and the journey of life. Edmund has been an Emergency Medical Technician since 2008, and served as a Pawtucket, Rhode Island firefighter for over 9 years.

Brendan McCarthy

Brendan is also a Rhode Island native and one half of Authentic Abstraction LLC. Brendan lives with his fiancé Sarah and two guard pugs Bosco and Gertrude, along with a fantastic feline, Charles Grand Tinkles the 4th aka “Mr. Tinkles”. Brendan enjoys long walks on the beach, star gazing, and playing music. Brendan served as a firefighter in Rhode Island for 9 years
