Valley Arts Open Studios

The doors and art spaces of the Nicholson File Art Studios, Binch Press, Queer Archive Work, and The Wurks will be open to the public to allow people to observe and experience the artistic processes and products of the artists in our neighborhood, which includes multiple buildings of studio spaces. Some studios will give short talks and/or demonstrations in their spaces featuring ceramics, textile arts, printmaking and book arts.

The residents of Nicholson File are a dedicated group of innovators, collaborators, educators, and invested members of the community who share ideas and tools. We are mentors and teachers, we work in arts organizations, in schools as teaching artists, and in non-traditional educational settings. We welcome you to check out our space at the next semi-annual sale or open studio!

Binch Press / Queer.Archive.Work
The Binch/QAW shared studio space is in occupied Pokanoket, Narragansett, Wampanoag, and Nipmuc territory. The studio supports artists, printmakers, writers, and others who don’t necessarily identify with these terms with shared space, tools, and techniques for queer, radical, and/or experimental printmaking and publishing. We center Queer / Trans People and Black / Indigenous / People of Color, especially those from Rhode Island. We work in solidarity with movements for social, environmental, and economic justice. We support the abolition of police, prisons, and white supremacy and our practices are done with these ideals in mind

The Wurks is a collaboratively managed artist’s workspace located in Providence’s historic mill district. Our space houses communal wood and metal fabrication shops, a print shop, and an exhibition space, as well as sizable studio spaces for both individual artists and groups. The Wurks exists as a place for a diverse group of artists and designers to foster a community of hard work and forward thinking in the Ocean State. Our aim is to provide the conceptual support and the physical equipment necessary for Rhode Island creatives to realize and share their wild visions.
