Whisk Broom Making Workshop

Come learn the secrets to making your very own broom! Attendees will be guided through the tools, materials and process of making a small whisk broom during the event in this fun and conversational gathering. Founders and participants of PVD Coven will share their ongoing experiment using craft and skill sharing to connect the disparate creative circles in Rhode Island and discuss intentional reconnection in a post-pandemic world. The event will be hosted at the studio of Observatory, a Furniture and Industrial Design consultancy.

Broom making is a full body, physical process; please bring close toed, flat heeled shoes. The fee for the event will cover the cost of supplies.

Cutter Hutton

Cutter Hutton is co-founder and director of Observatory, a product and furniture design consultancy based in Providence. He is involved in all aspects of the studio’s operations, from project management and client development to concept generation and designing the nuts and bolts of every project. He has led engagements with leading corporations including Procter & Gamble, Herman Miller, Samsonite, LG Electronics, Massachusetts General Hospital and The Lincoln Center. Hutton’s work has won numerous awards including the GIA, Japan’s Good Design Award (G-Mark) and the Chicago Athenaeum’s Good Design Award.

Ayumi Kodama

Ayumi is an object and furniture designer, influenced by her graphic design background. She works with a variety of materials including glass, fiber, and paper. She and her sister started Studio Ayumiya where they design objects made for production as well as open edition hand-made objects.
